Jaguar Unveils £150k Type 01 EV, Drawing Mixed Reviews Over Size
Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01 Grand Tourer, a new £150,000 electric vehicle the heritage carmaker is calling "a new era" for the brand. Revealed in New York by Jaguar's managing director Rawdon Glover, the Type 01 targets young American buyers with striking design choices, including an available "London red" finish.
However, early critical reaction has been sharply mixed, with commentators questioning the car's practicality: its gigantic footprint is seen as poorly suited to UK city driving and parking, with wheels described as larger than those of a heavy-duty pickup truck.
Critics argue the Type 01's scale runs counter to the broader promise of the EV revolution, which was meant to shift drivers away from energy-heavy excess toward more efficient, sustainable design.
Despite its high price tag and limited everyday usability, the launch signals Jaguar's ambitious repositioning strategy as it pushes further into the premium electric vehicle market, betting on bold styling and brand heritage to capture attention.
