Bangladesh Eye Historic Neutral-Venue Test Win Against Afghanistan
Bangladesh's one-off Test against Afghanistan is underway at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi, with Day 1 play starting at 12pm Bangladesh time on Friday.
Fresh from their heroics in Darwin, Najmul Hossain Shanto's Bangladesh side enters looking to continue their strong recent run in five-day cricket, while Afghanistan hope for a fresh start under new captain Rahmat Shah.
This marks Bangladesh's first-ever Test at a neutral venue and their debut Test appearance in the UAE. Shanto has made clear the Darwin win is firmly in the past, with full focus now on the Afghan challenge. The Abu Dhabi surface, historically slow and demanding, could see temperatures climb to nearly 40°C during play.
A win here would be a landmark achievement for Shanto, making it his 10th Test victory as captain — further cementing his status as Bangladesh's most successful Test skipper, with crucial WTC points also on the line.
