Grand Final Underway: Lions Strike First as Dockers Chase History
The Fremantle Dockers and Brisbane Lions are locked in battle at the MCG in the 2026 Toyota AFL Grand Final, kicking off at 2:30pm AEST on Saturday, September 26. Fremantle is chasing its maiden premiership since joining the league in 1995, while Brisbane is hunting a rare three-peat, having won the last two flags.
In a major blow, Dockers captain Alex Pearce was ruled out with a suspected Achilles injury before the match. The Lions drew first blood through a superb opening goal from Charlie Cameron, before Josh Treacy responded with a monster effort from outside 50 to open Fremantle's account.
Early in the first quarter, Brisbane held a narrow lead, 9 to 7. Both sides named unchanged lineups heading in, with Lachie Neale cleared to play for Brisbane after successfully appealing a suspension.
It's the first-ever finals meeting between these two clubs, adding extra intrigue to a tightly fought
